Bluegrass on the Boardwalk/Funky Foot Race, and Kids Boardwalk Dash
July 4, 2014
To make the 4th a special day, we have combined the Funky Foot Race/Kids Boardwalk Dash with the Bluegrass on the Boardwalk Event. The day will begin with a half marathon at 8 am, 5k and 10k at 9am and the Kids Boardwalk Dash at 10:30am. The Boardwalk Dash will be broken up into two groups, children ages 3-6 and 7-10. This is an action packed fun run/walk for the entire family. Along the course there will be a local band and water stations. Directly following the Boardwalk Dash will be the awards ceremony and plenty of great giveaways! These will be awarded to the participants of the fun runs. You will not want to miss this opportunity to win great prizes, this includes cash!!!
The race 5K, 10K and Half Marathon will have official chip timing!
We are proud supporters of the Wounded Warrior Project and are helping to raise funds for wounded service men and women. This event is a stars and stripes theme so do not forget to come in your patriotic garb. So come on out and show your support to honor and empower our wounded warriors! Pre-registration will begin in April. Please be sure to check back for updates.
The Bluegrass on the Boardwalk Event will begin at 1pm and continue until the start of the jaw dropping VFW fireworks at dusk. This will be held in the grassy area next to the new boardwalk. There will be a variety of bluegrass talents playing throughout the day. Beer and food will be plentiful as well. The Port of Brookings Harbor will be roasting a pig and everyone will be able to purchase a pulled pork sandwich to munch on. Please bring a blanket and comfortable chair to enjoy a day of music and a night of fireworks.
In addition, the Chili cook-off begins at 1pm will be held in front of Slugs and Stones. The cook-off benefits The Oasis House a shelter for battered women and out of consideration we have chosen to keep the beer a distance from the cook-off.
The VFW will be displaying a jaw dropping fireworks show around 9pm when the sun goes down. This will take place near the kite field. If you are not attending the bluegrass event you may watch the fireworks from the kite field or beach. Please be sure to bring warm clothes and a blanket as the ocean breeze tends to be a bit chilly.
This is a day packed full of entertainment and fun for everyone to enjoy. There is no admission into the Festival. We look forward to sharing the July 4th holiday with everyone and we will see you at the Port!
